S7 tracking: a starting point

Our archived page described S7 as an entry-level Thatcham tracking category. Depending on the model and subscription, available features can include:

• Online vehicle location: access to current and historical location information.
• Geofencing: virtual boundaries around chosen locations, with associated alerts.
• Battery alerts: notifications of battery tampering or low battery levels.
• Movement alerts: notifications when the vehicle moves without the ignition being used, for example when being towed.

S5 tracking: driver identification

S5 systems add driver identification using a detection card or tag. Depending on the system, movement or ignition activity without an authorised tag can trigger an alert to the tracking provider, which follows its response procedure.

This extra layer can draw attention to unauthorised use sooner. Ask us to explain the exact alerts, monitoring arrangements and subscription included with your chosen tracker.

• Keep your tag with you: do not leave the driver card or tag in the vehicle when it is unattended.
• Separate it from your keys: keeping the tag apart from vehicle keys helps preserve the benefit of driver identification.
• Know the response process: understand who receives an alert and what to do if you suspect a theft.

What about S5+?

Our archived page used “S5+” to describe an S5 tracking system with added immobilisation, sometimes called “no tag, no start”. Product names and implementations vary. Ask us to confirm the immobilisation behaviour, vehicle compatibility and the certification recognised by your insurer for the exact product.

Choosing between tracking options
